The “Red Book” sits at the center of this journey. It holds your thoughts, your steps, and the moments that shape you through the months ahead. Over time, it becomes a legacy piece you build with care. It reflects the days you pushed forward, the days you rested, and the lessons that settled into your heart. By the end, it becomes something you can return to with pride or share with someone who may need the reminder that steady effort can change a life.
Before you begin the prompts, write a short introduction in your “Red Book.” Start with your name. Add the TSL Class you were in and the region or subregion you belong to. After that, write your reasons for signing up. Share what brought you here, what stirred you to try something different, and what you hope to repair, grow, or rebuild. Be open. Be honest. Speak to yourself as you are right now, without worry about perfection. Let this be the starting place for the story you will write throughout the year.
When your introduction feels settled, continue with the prompts that guide your goals.
Tolkien prompt
Tolkien in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings spoke of courage, friendship, steady hope, and simple acts that carry significant weight. He showed how small choices can shape a person’s path and how quiet strength can guide someone through hard places.

Roosevelt prompt
Teddy Roosevelt encouraged effort, grit, outdoor life, and the choice to act rather than wait. He believed that character forms through honest work, service, and movement.
Based on this, what is your Roosevelt goal for the challenge?
Modern Strenuous Life prompt

Based on this, what is your Modern Strenuous Life goal for the challenge?
Personal goals
This challenge offers space for growth and change. Look ahead at the long stretch of days and be truthful with yourself.
What do you hope to accomplish during this journey?
What is a physical fitness goal you want to work on?
What is a community or service goal you feel pulled toward this year?
The Burglar's Contract
Print a copy of The Burglar Contract and sign it with ink. A wet signature signals commitment in the spirit of a strenuous life. Put your contract in your "Red Book" to keep as a reminder of your commitment to the journey.

Completed my entry. I thought it would be a page; I went four pages in.
