About the event

Teddy Roosevelt was famous for reading two to three books a day. He would read a book before breakfast every day and, depending on his schedule, another two or three in the evening (he was a speed reader extraordinaire). By his own estimates, he read tens of thousands of books over the course of his lifetime. For the contest, the goal is to read three books a month, or 36 for the year. Here are the rules:

  1. The contest begins at midnight on January 1 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on December 31 in your time zone.

  2. The average page count must be 250 pages or 75,000 words.

  3. Of the 36 books:

    1. Only six may be from a book you have read before.

    2. You must read at least one but no more than six from each of the following genres—(1)fantasy fiction, (2)science fiction, (3)horror fiction, (4)historical fiction, (5)mystery/thriller/crime fiction, (6)fiction short…
